The designer presented his complete personal vision for the Italian house with a cast of characters shopping in a purpose-built retail world.
Demna believes he has finally cracked Gucci. In his show notes for the Italian label's spring/summer 2027 presentation in Milan, he declared that this collection represents "my complete personal vision for the brand, based on everything I've learned about it since I arrived."
The designer constructed a fictional Gucci boutique for the occasion, welcoming Shawn Mendes, Bianca Jagger, and Cardi B to watch models play the part of shoppers browsing an elaborate retail theater. The runway became a parade of archetypes filtered through Demna's distinctive lens.
Men's looks launched the procession, evolving from the designer's characteristic streetwear pairings into slim tailoring that recalled Tom Ford's tenure at the house—a reference he has mined before. These opening looks established the collection's governing conceit: collars flipped upward, diamond Gucci nameplate necklaces catching light, and the millennial-beloved Marmont belt making appearances throughout.
Women's wear extended the same narrative fantasy. Models embodied Italian matrons and grandmothers in hip-skimming capri pants and polished trench coats, casually adjusting oversized sunglasses while preparing their croc-embossed handbags for imaginary transactions. The casting spanned an '80s preppy type with a sweater knotted across her shoulders to a harder-edged figure in a horsebit corset belt, fringed scarf skirt, and layered gold chains. Demna described the collection as accommodating both "good taste and bad taste"—adding, "whatever that means."
Where fashion presentations typically transport audiences to distant realms, Demna rooted his spectacle in the familiar rituals of commerce. His parallel-universe flagship dramatized the personalities who populate such spaces: streetwear devotees, impossibly chic Florentine women, and figures dressed for evening pursuits.
As the conceptual store approached closing time, the lineup shifted toward night dressing. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Candice Swanepoel, and Anok Yai emerged in form-fitting silhouettes ranging from a lace bustier paired with a shaggy '90s-style coat to a revealing black jersey dress with one entire side eliminated.
The designer's research yielded a philosophical conclusion about the house's meaning. "The conclusion of my research is that Gucci stands for being rooted in the desire to belong to a more glamorous world," he wrote, "and the audacity to remake that world in your own image."
