Kim Kardashian's 46th birthday dinner became a fashion moment thanks to a gift from longtime friend Olivier Rousteing: access to the Rabanne archive.
The reality star celebrated last night at Baldi, a Tuscan steakhouse inside the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, wearing two pieces of vintage couture designed by Paco Rabanne himself. Rousteing, who has not yet shown his first collection for the brand, personally selected both looks from the fall 1995 haute couture collection.
For her arrival, Kardashian wore look 21: a green crystal-trimmed mesh minidress featuring a plunging neckline and high slit. Styled by Law Roach, she paired the dress with a retrofuturistic chainmail headpiece covered in oversized emerald green stones. She later changed into look 22 for her departure—a fuchsia version of the same dress design. This second look came with a matching headpiece adorned with smaller red cabochons, plus an oversized crystal pendant necklace.
Though Rousteing has not yet revealed his creative direction for Rabanne, the archive selections may offer a hint. "For me, fashion has always been about connecting the past, the present and the future," Rousteing tells Vogue exclusively. "I believe we need to understand the stories that came before us to create something meaningful today, and something even more powerful tomorrow."
